GWP at COP 20

The 20th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 20) is held from 1 to 12 December in Lima, Peru. Representatives from GWP are present.

The GWP delegation will continue the network’s efforts to bring the message of an urgent need of a dedicated Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) for water to the post-2015 agenda.

Apart from participating in the events of the conference, GWP will also co-convene several side events. The main one is a joint event on ‘Africa & Caribbean South-South knowledge exchange on Water Security & Climate Resilient Development’, together with AMCOW, CARICOM, CDKN and the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS). This takes place on Wednesday, 10th December, at 3 p.m. local time.

On Tuesday 9 December, 10:30 a.m. local time, GWP holds a press briefing on the topic of ‘South-South Exchange on Water Security in a Changing Climate’. The press conference will build on shared lessons and experiences from South-South exchange on GWP activities aiming to strengthen water security and climate resilience across Africa, Caribbean, Central and South America. It will also focus on key emerging issues related to water under the negotiations in the first week. The press briefing will be chaired by Mrs. Nicole Bernex, Emeritus Chair to GWP Peru/Academic Director of CIGA/GWP TEC Member, and the panel will be made up of GWP representatives from the regional offices and network.

During the second week of the conference there is also a GWP booth (no. 126) with information about the network.
