new Chair for GWP West Africa
Prof. Abel AFOUDA is the new Chair of GWP in West Africa. His appointment
as the new Chair was approved by the participants to the last Assembly of

GWP West Africa held its 5th Assembly of Partners in
Accra, Ghana on 7 May 2013. The meeting gathered more than forty (40)
participants representing key water partners at regional and national levels
from 10 countries in the region as well as basin organizations,
intergovernmental bodies and private institutions. Read

CWP
meeting: CWP urged to go for accreditation
A
meeting of Country Water Partnerships (CWP) was organized on 6th May 2013 in
Accra in preparation of the Assembly of Partners meeting on 7 May. This meeting
gathered chairs and designated delegates of 10 out the 13 CWP in the region. Read

The signature of the agreement on May 14, 2013 between the two institutions
is to mark the institutional presence of GWP-WA and strengthen the existing
collaboration with government departments.
The event
took place in the conference room of the Ministry of Water, water projects and
sanitation. On behalf of the Government of Burkina Faso, Minister Mamounata
BELEM Ouedraogo signed the document with the Chair of the Global Water
Partnership for West Africa, Mr. Hama Arba Diallo. Read

Implementing
WACDEP: MoU signed with VBA
The MoU signed on April 9, 2013
in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso aims at "formalizing the commitment of both
parties to agree on how to use funds made available to the VBA for the
implementation of WACDEP activities." Read

Assessing
the work, the Secretariat planning for the year
How can GWP-WA bring its contribution to better shape the
projects and ongoing and future programs. This was the overall objective of the
secretariat staff retreat on 2, 3 and 4 April 2013 in Kombissiri, a town about

Capacity
building for the Benin WASH Alliance
The Members of the
Benin WASH alliance composed of national and international NGOs involved in the
water and sanitation sector in the country, the country Coordinator and Dutch
partners of WASTE and ICCO followed this workshop held from 25 to 28 February
2013.
The objective of this workshop is to
achieve a more coherent and strengthened joint program of partners of the DWA
Alliance (Dutch WASH Alliance) and WASH Benin. Read

FROM PARTNERS
The
first West African Sub Regional Water Integrity Capacity-Building Workshop for
Ghana and Sierra Leone was held at the Mirage Royale Hotel, East Legon, Accra,
Ghana from 08th to 12th April 2013 was successful as it
trained 29 participants on water integrity. The course was conducted on all the
seven modules in the Training Manual on Water Integrity to participants.
Participants learnt to understand corruption and anti-corruption in the context

COMING EVENT IN JULY 2013
The next joint
GWP-WA / IUCN-PACO media workshop
The West and Central Africa Programme of the IUCN
(IUCN / PACO) and the Global Water Partnership for West Africa (GWP / WA) are co-organizing
the 7th edition of the sub regional media capacity building workshop
from 1 to 5 July 2013 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on the theme "Water
financing and protecting the resource in West Africa”.
The workshop will gather about 40
journalists from 11 West African countries aimed to enhance the understanding
of journalists specializing in environment on this important topic for West
Africa. Read
