This is a guide to GWPO’s preferred style. It should be used for all GWPO publications to provide consistency in language style and formatting. This is important for an organization like GWPO which produces publications for many different audiences. (Click on image to download.)
The aim of this guide is to indicate our preferences where there are no set rules on what is right or wrong, and to act as a quick reference for common points of uncertainty. It is by no means intended to cover every detail; there are several very comprehensive guides that give information on copy-editing in general, and on specific rules of grammar, spelling etc. The key documents you should refer to for further clarification include:
The Concise Oxford English Dictionary, Eleventh Edition, Oxford University Press, Oxford, 2004
The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th Edition, Chicago, University of Chicago Press, 1993
