In line with the theme for 2013, the National Focal Point for the CBD for Cameroon requested Global Water Partnership (GWP) Cameroon to support in the process of elaborating the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) for Cameroon and ensure that water and climate change issues are elaborated. GWP Cameroon responded positively to this request, in line with the objectives of the African Minsters’ Council on Water (AMCOW) Water, Climate and Development Program (WACDEP), which it is implementing. The main objective of the WACDEP is to support countries in integrating climate change and water security into national development processes. The WACDEP Cameroon team supported this request through a participatory process that brought together experts to integrate climate change and water security issues into the draft NBSAP.
In Cameroon, the activities to mark the 2103 International Day for Biodiversity were led by the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, which acts as the focal institution for the CBD. The ministry organized a week of events from the 13th through the 17th of May 2013 to celebrate. GWP Cameroon participated in the field trip to Akomnyada drinking water supply treatment plant and the Biodiversity “open” day at the offices of the ministry in charge of the environment. During these activities, WACDEP program technical documents and GWP technical and policy documents were distributed to participants. The GWP Cameroon chair also pledged the availability of his team in supporting the process of finalizing the NBSAP, and especially in developing its investment plan.
