The Hindon Yatra exhibition was inaugurated by Mr Akhilesh Yadav, Honourable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh at his residence at Lucknow, followed by Hindon river symposium at Irrigation Department Auditorium, Uttar Pradesh.
The Hindon Yatra traveling exhibition and symposium demonstrates the positive energy and efforts being undertaken by multi stakeholders across governments, civil society and the private sector for rejuvenation of the Hindon river. The Yatra includes a few cases from outside the Hindon basin that provide a strong replication opportunity in support of the Ganges tributary approach. The exhibition is accompanied by a series of symposiums as it travels across the Hindon basin from Lucknow to Delhi, weaving together multiple stakeholders to collaborate to save the Hindon.
The report Hindon Yatra – a multi-stakeholders’ journey towards river rejuvenation has also documented 20 case studies of multiple efforts to rejuvenate the river, which was developed by the 2030 Water Resources Group (2030 WRG) in partnership with IWP, Uttar Pradesh Government and other stakeholders. The Book is based on the IWP’s Stakeholders Mapping Exercise of the Hindon river basin and the field research.
Dr Veena Khanduri, Executive Secretary cum Country Coordinator, IWP and also a member of the Hindon Yatra Advisory Group in highlighting the partnership with 2030 Water Resources Group said “IWP is honoured to inform the success of our continues and vigorous working relationship for the last one year with 2030 Water Resources Group – we created networks and partnerships with the Government of Uttar Pradesh as well as Community Based Organisations located in and around Hindon River Basin who are engaged in Hindon river rejuvenation”.
The partnership enabled IWP to demonstrate its efforts in water management and establish linkages with Government of Uttar Pradesh - Irrigation Department, Divisional Commissioners and District Administrations, stakeholders of Hindon river including Industries, Non-Governmental Organisations, farmers, community based organisations and research institutions who are working towards Hindon river rejuvenation. Most importantly, IWP was linked with Jan-Jan Jodo Abhiyan (People to People led campaign) led by Mr Rajendra Singh – “Water Man of India” and 2030 Water Resources Group in this initiative.
