DanuRELY

Empowering Tomorrow’s Water Leaders!

The DanuRELY project, led by GWP CEE, focuses on empowering youth in the Danube Region to contribute to water security and resilience in the face of extreme events like floods and droughts. The project aims to address key challenges such as water quality, biodiversity loss, and waterborne transport by building youth knowledge, leadership, and skills in water management. It emphasizes intergenerational cooperation and creates platforms for meaningful youth participation in decision-making processes.

Through collaboration with national and transnational institutions including EUSDR, ICPDR, and GWP, the project supports the EU Strategy for the Danube Region by aligning with priority areas on water quality, environmental risks, and knowledge society.

Key activities include a focus group survey, transdisciplinary dialogues, capacity-building workshops, and the establishment of the Danube Youth Council, all designed to foster youth leadership and engagement in shaping sustainable water management policies.

Youth, Innovation & Water in the Danube Region

As part of the DANURELY-WS project, we kicked off a series of three engaging webinars this spring. Each session focused on a different but interconnected theme: youth participation, water quality, and sustainable river transport in the Danube region.

We began on April 2nd with a webinar on Youth Involvement in Water Quality, highlighting how young people can become agents of change in environmental protection. It was organized in cooperation with the Water Research Institute in Slovakia. Watch now! Read more.

The second webinar, on April 22nd, looked at how institutions and communication strategies can help manage water resources in the context of climate change. This session was co-hosted by the University of Belgrade and brought an institutional and governance perspective. Watch now! Read more.

And most recently, on May 14th, we hosted Flowing Forward: Youth for Sustainable River Transport. This international session explored innovations like autonomous logistics and green inland ports. We also heard personal stories from young professionals and introduced the work of the Danube Youth Council – a great platform for youth to shape regional policies. Watch now! Read more.

All three webinars created space for learning, connection, and meaningful dialogue among students, researchers, and policymakers. If you missed any of them – no worries. Full recordings and materials are available online!
