Danube Floodplain Online Winter School Registration Now Open

Taking place on 15-19 November 2021, it will provide a multi-layered program that aims to bridge theoretical knowledge, practical issues and links to policies in Floodplain Management.

Danube Floodplain Online Winter School is open for all (current or future) participants of Danube Floodplain Online Course.  Winter School is a continuation of the Danube Floodplain Online Course and therefore the enrolment in Daube Floodplain Online Course is recommended.

The topics include:

  • Linking Danube Floodplain achievements and recently developed scientific methods with working practices in water/flood resource management.
  • Tailoring specific Danube experiences in preservation and reservation of floodplains for use in floodplain/water management. 
  • Building capacities and sharing knowledge for better floodplain management.

The focus:

Under rising pressures of climate change, biodiversity loss and land use intensification, the management of landscape and river space is  a challenge. It is inevitable to build upon recent scientific advancements in order to tackle the challenge via adaptive and well-informed management. The Danube Floodplain Winter Online School connects floodplain management experts in science and management to apply and exchange on cutting edge scientific methods targeted to practical management challenges.  

Methodology and structure:

The Winter Online School builds on the modules of the Danube Floodplain Online Course on edX (TUMx). It is recommended that the participants of the Winter Online School complete the Danube Floodplain Online Course prior the Winter School, or during each morning before the Winter School Lecture for respective Online Course Module starts in the afternoon

Duration: Winter School Lectures takes 2 hours per day for 5 days. Lectures are scheduled in the afternoon, providing the opportunity to incorporate the Winter School in your daily working schedule, or combine it with the enrolment in the Danube Floodplain Online Course.  

Structure: Each day one Module of the Danube Floodplain Online Course will be explored. Topics are approached from a different angles, and for each day lecturers provide exciting and diverse formats to deepen the learning experience.

For whom is the Winter Online School?

Danube Floodplain Winter Online School is designed to enhance skills of all young and mid-level professionals who are studying/working in the field of flood(plain) management It is prepared for  professionals  working in private sector, governmental agencies,  non-governmental organizations, pre- and post-graduate students (the future managers, engineers and scientists), and all others, interested, who want to develop competences in the field floodplain management. Participants must be able to communicate fluently in English.
