Youth involvement in water quality – First DANURELY-WS webinar successfully launched

On 2 April 2025, the first of a series of webinars under the DANURELY-WS (Danube Youth Leadership for Water Security) project took place. The online event, organized by the Water Research Institute (VÚVH, Slovakia) in collaboration with GWP CEE, focused on the topic of youth involvement in improving water quality in the Danube region.

Over 50 participants from various countries across the region egistered for the session, which featured a series of expert presentations followed by a Q&A discussion.

Key topics addressed

The webinar introduced key water quality challenges relevant to the Danube basin, such as:

  • Hazardous substances and their risks to water quality,

  • The impact of urbanization and agriculture on groundwater,

  • The presence and effects of microplastics in surface waters,

  • Solutions for nitrate pollution in agricultural areas.

The event aimed to empower young people with knowledge and raise awareness of water-related issues that require innovative thinking and active civic engagement.
