Main objective of the workshop "Building a framework for collective action in the management of the transboundary waters in Kaliningrad, Russia, Lithuania and Poland" is to exchange information and ideas on transboundary cooperation.
The workshop participants will identify the gaps in existing river basin management plans and schemes for transboundary Neman and Pregolya River Basins.
They will also discuss possibilities to develop joint methodology for assessment of ecological water status in the transboundary Neman and Pregola Rivers.
Organizers expect about 40 participants from Russia (Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg), Poland, Lithuania, Sweden and Belarus.
"The event will serve as a solid basis for future cooperation on transboundary issues, very important for European Union countries, which have started the second cycle of river basin planning", says Bernardas Paukstys, Chair of GWP Lithuania.
Organizers are GWP Lithuania and GWP Poland, Baltic Institute for Ecology of Hydrosphere, Institute of Economics Russian Academy of Science Stockholm Environment Institute and Stockholm International Water Institute. The project is supported by Swedish Institute and Swedish Government.
