The Sava Commission granted GWP Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) ad hoc Observer status for the two years period as of the April 11, 2012 by April 11, 2014. After this period, it can be renewed every two years upon request.
The Sava Commission was established by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia for purpose of the implementation of the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin on 27-29 June 2005 in Zagreb, Croatia. The Permanent Secretariat of the Sava Commission started to work on 9 January 2006 and is based in Zagreb.
Its mission is to establish sustainable water management, which includes cooperation on management of the Sava River Basin water resources in a sustainable manner, comprising integrated management of surface and ground water resources
The Sava River starts in Slovenia, flows through Croatia, along the northern border of Bosnia and Herzegovina and finally through Serbia where it meets the Danube River in Belgrade. It is 945 kilometers long, the second longest tributary to Danube after the Tisza River.
GWP CEE is entitled to participate in all opened-part of the Sessions of the Sava Commission and in the meetings of the permanent expert groups. Out of GWP CEE countries, Slovenia is a member country of the Sava Commission.
