Staburags or Staburadze was an unusual 18-metre high cliff on the bank of Daugava in Latvia shaped and formed by lime rich springs. According to legend, a mourning girl has been turned into the rock. The cliff disappeared during construction of the Pļaviņas Hydroelectric Power Station Dam in 1965.
Staburadze, are you still crying? (Staburadze, vai tu vēl raudi in Latvian) is the first educational movie about history, culture and environment of the Daugava River. It highlights a need for responsible use of natural resources and preservation of culture values connected to the river for future generations.
In the first phase in 2013, the movie will be shown to schoolchildren and visitors of the Daugava Museum located on Dole Island in Salaspils Town.
GWP Latvia contributed with a part about integrated water resources management. This approach can be used for balanced development of culture, history and nature values in the Daugava River valley in line with needs of national economy.
