The Project is addressing the issue of sustainable management of karst groundwater and ecosystems. It is the first ever attempt globally to introduce integrated management principles in a transboundary karst freshwater aquifer of such magnitude. It is a collective effort to:
- facilitate the equitable and sustainable utilization of the transboundary water resources of the Dinaric Karst Aquifer Systems,
- protect the unique groundwater dependent ecosystems that characterize the Dinaric Karst region of the Balkan Peninsula.
GWP Med coordinates Component 4 Working Group of the DIKTAS project, implementing a set of information, communication and replication activities in support of DIKTAS’ objectives elaborated in the Stakeholders and Public Participation Strategy (SPPS). The SPPS of the DIKTAS project seek to integrate information, strategic communication, stakeholders’ consultation and involvement activities into the Project strategy, increment activities, and execution, contributing to the accomplishment of its aims and objectives in order to benefit the implementation, outcomes and sustainability of the Project.
In the framework of Component 4 Stakeholders' Consultation activities, four National Consultation Meetings took place, from 28th of February to 06th of March 2012, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Albania and Montenegro. GWP Mediterranean designed, coordinated and facilitated the consultation process; all meetings were met with success and received very encouraging comments by the participants. The results will be published in the DIKTAS National Consultation Meetings Report in the DIKTAS website, http://diktas.iwlearn.org/publications.
