The conference will focus on Global Change, SDGs and the Nexus Approach, focusing on: climate, urbanization, and population growth. The discussion will center on the way the nexus approach can guide the integrated management of environmental resources (water, soil and waste) towards achieving the potential Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the post-2015 UN agenda.
The Dresden Nexus Conference 2015 aims to identify best management practices for maintaining and enhancing environmental resources by adopting the nexus approach to their sustainable management, capacity development needs required for the implementation of a nexus approach and the achievement of the SDGs, as well as priorities for research, education and policy advice.
Among the topics in the agenda are the following: climate change adaptation & mitigation, inclusive & sustainable industrial development for resource efficient industries, sustainable energy solutions, eco-cities, urban environmental development, urban ecosystem services & biological diversity, integrated urban water management, soil functions for achieving SDGs, land degradation, water quality, regional land-use dynamics, water security, food waste, integrated land use planning and ecosystem services.
The Global Water Partnership (GWP) supports the organization of the Conference along with other stakeholders (public administration, academia, international agencies and organizations). Dr. Danka Thalmeinerova, Senior Knowledge Management Officer at GWP, is serving as a member of the Conference’s Scientific Committee. GWP Regions, including GWP-Med, are getting organized to contribute to the Conference’s deliberations.
