The AIP recognises that the untapped potential in women and youth are critical to achieve transformative economic growth that truly alleviates poverty; boosts shared prosperity; and improve overall stability. The programme, therefore, identifies and addresses systemic gender inequalities which, on one hand, adversely affect women and girls’ wellbeing; workforce opportunities and outcomes; and wider roles within the home and community, while on the other, persistently hold back society from achieving its full potential for reducing poverty, promoting shared growth, and creating an inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous Africa.
Similarly, the programme harnesses latent productivity, innovation, and entrepreneurship of Africa’s youth, which have been grossly under-utilised in the continents strive for economic growth. To ensure the highest standards in mobilising women and youth as agents of change, the AIP will be guided by the HLPW’s 4 recommended action areas for gender equality and inclusion in Water Resources Management.
