Trevor Thompson - GWP-C Chair & GWP Chair of Regional Chairs
Mr. Thompson was therefore elected amongst the 13 Regional Chairs of the GWP network to hold the permanent observer position of Chair of Regional Chairs. This means he will be responsible for representing the Regional Chairs in the GWP Steering Committee, as well as represent regions in various fora where necessary. He will serve in this position for two (2) years and takes over from Professor Amadou Hama MAIGA, Chair of GWP West Africa.
Apart from being a stalwart leader and Partner of GWP-C, Mr. Thompson is the Acting Head of the Land Use Division in the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment of Grenada. He is a member of the Grenada National Climate Change Committee (NCCC), Chair of the Adaptation Sub-Committee of the NCCC, and the Chair of the GEF-SGP National Steering Committee. He is also the Nation Focal Point for the UNCCD, the OECS GCCA Project and is the Chair of the World Bank DVRP PPCR Project, Technical Working Group. He has also represented Grenada as a Climate Change Negotiator at various COP meetings in Cancun, Durban, Paris, Marrakesh, Bonn, Madrid and others.
Mr. Thompson has a wealth of experience in agriculture, particularly in the areas of land, water and irrigation and has contributed significantly to the Ministry, and with the Irrigation Management Unit. Through his work with the Ministry of Agriculture, he was actively involved in the development and preparation of a National Water Policy for Grenada in 2008 and the drafting of an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Road Map for Grenada along with the Caribbean Environmental Health Institute (CEHI). He remains dedicated to ongoing efforts in his home country of Grenada and the region to support IWRM. GWP-C congratulates Mr. Thompson on this well-deserved appointment.
