6th Innovative Solutions for Water Secure and Sustainable Development Webinar Series

On 17 December 204 Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia (GWP-SEA) held its 6th webinar series of Innovative Solutions for Water Secure and Sustainable Development webinar series, focusing on remediation of The Tukad Rangda River and the surrounding areas in The City of Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia with 85 attendees online.

The webinar featured Global Water Partnership (GWP) partner from Russia, Agro Eco Veda Club represented by Pavel Kargashin, the Director Science of Club Agro Eco Veda.Local government representative from City of Denpasar-Bali, Ms CokordaIstriMirahyani, also joined alongand explained the water management challenges in the TukadRangda River, Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. 

The webinar started with opening remarks from Mr Christopher Matthew Ilagan, GWP SEA Chairman, followed by a setting-the-scene presentation by Mr Fany Wedahuditama from Water Stewardship Indonesia who shared on risk and innovation toward climate change adaptation. As the audiences were warming up on the topic, Mr Pavel Kargashin presented Agro Eco Veda Club’s innovation on the social project Remediation of the River Tukad Rangda in the city of Denpasar, an innovation to clean the urban section of the river and the surrounding residential areas from wastewater pollutants. The program also included the organization of urban enterprises for the production of plant and animal products,by using nutrients from the treated wastewater, with local engagement from government, private sector and academia in Bali.

The presentation was then followed up with panel discussion, moderated by Louise Desrainy (Interim Regional Coordinator GWP SEA) featuring panellist: André Villaça Ramalho (Water Resilience Coalition Coordinator and UNGC -CEO Water Mandate) and Dr.HaryaMuldianto, ST, MT (Director of Water Resources Infrastructure Financing Implementation at the Directorate General of Public Works and Housing Infrastructure Financing, Ministry of Public Work Indonesia) along with Q & A session with the audiences. Each panelist shared their improvement feedback to help GWP-SEA partners such as Agro Eco Veda in searching innovative financing to support such project and how they canbuildgood portfolio to attract investor. André shared the importance of developing strong business case for company to invest in the sustainability projects, such as the volumetric water benefit of the project (e.g USD/m3 or beneficiaries); also, the importance of considering the maintenance of the innovative solutions. Dr. Harya shared some government program in collaborating with partners and private entities through Public Private Partnership (PPP). He introduced the PPP scheme for water resources infrastructure financing in Indonesiaand example of successful projects that were already implemented in Indonesia. 

Agro Eco Veda Club and GWP-SEA are welcoming other stakeholders to collaborate in the future in Southeast Asian countries. The webinar was wrapped up by hearing the key takeaways from Mr Raymond Valiant, who expert in water resources management and an incoming Regional Coordinator of Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia.
