The two (2) days training funded by the Global World Partnership (GWP) and Malaysian Water Partnership (MyWP) was implemented by Global Environment Centre (GEC) in partnership of Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Malaysia.
The two (2) days RIVER Ranger Training of Trainers (ToT) programme participated by 29 DID officers from 13 states in Malaysia (except for Perlis). The programme focused on how to engage the local community participation in river monitoring as well as on how to empower their knowledge and skill on river monitoring and auditing. This was followed with hands-on activities and sharing by selected three (3) different local communities groups/initiatives and a site visit to the Sg Kemensah Water Treatment Plant.
The two (2) days training was a combination of theory and hands-on skills and knowledge, which provided a new scope of approach, the ‘Heart’ approach within the river management to the government officers in dealing with river pollution and monitoring issues by engaging the local communities as the eyes and ears of the river.
This report will be focusing on the RIVER Ranger Training of Trainers (ToT) programme which was conducted on 10th and 11th August 2016 at Dewan Dahlia, DID Ampang with the support of DID Malaysia.
