2018 Pre Steering Committee Meeting

Vientiane, 22 October 2018 -- A pre Steering Commitee Meeting was held in the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Secretariat on 22 October 2018 to discuss several important agenda for the upcoming event in the Q4. Involving 13 participants that represent the Country Water Partnership's Chair, GWP SEA Chairman and the Secretariat, as well as GWPO representatives, this event was back to back with the Regional Shared Vision Planning & Collaborative Modelling Training and Workshop which also held in Vientiane, Lao PDR.

The meeting was held as a preparation meeting for the upcoming events, specifically the Steering Committee Meeting that expected to finalize the successor of chairmanship of the GWP SEA in December 2018.

GWP SEA Chairman was given an opening remark

Upon discussion, another important agenda were discussed, among others: the progress and preliminary evaluation of GWP-SEA vis a vie its mandate and 2018 work plan under the 3-years work programme; to inform the coming GWP capacity building workshops; to discuss about the new GWP strategy 2020-2025; to communicate the forthcoming Lancang-Mekong Multi Stakeholders Platform and to received a feedbacks from the Steering Committee members. The last on the list has enlighten toward the new relationship with not only between the Mekong countries and China via the Lancang Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center, but also with the non-Mekong Contries, specifically with the ASEAN Secretariat.

The regional coordinator argued about the importance of engaging partners in a more meaningful way and how can the GWP SEA platform can accomodate this strategic issue.
