Vision and mission

Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) shares the vision of the GWP network which is for "a water secure world" with a mission to support countries in the sustainable development and  management of water resources at all levels.

More specifically, GWP West Africa has defined its mission in its statutes in Articles 5 and 6 as follows:

Article 5. The fundamental mission of the Partnership is to build alliances and strengthen institutional capacities of its members to encourage and strengthen research networks, expertise and information on IWRM.

Article 6. The Partnership's objectives are to:

a). promote sustainable development through the integrated management of water resources at the country and watersheds;
b). promote the establishment of Country Water Partnerships (English Country Water Partnership and abbreviated CWP) in the countries of the subregion and support their actions to facilitate the implementation of IWRM;

c). promote the adoption and implementation of good practices of IWRM at the regional, national, local and community level;

d). help support the idea of ​​partnership in the management of water resources at global, regional and national levels;

e). support the countries of the West African region to draw up the inventory management of their water resources and to identify gaps and emerging needs in the context of the implementation of IWRM;

f). sensitize governments and development partners to the need to meet critical needs in IWRM in the West African region;

g). assist the development of institutional management tools, technical and financial control and monitoring of water resources;

h). develop ongoing relationships between agencies, stakeholders and partners responsible for the integrated management of water resources and encourage them to exchange knowledge, expertise, experiences and practices of integrated management of water resources;

i). support training, basic research and action research and the information of members, elected officials, civil society, representatives of users, stakeholders in the water management, leadership and personal agencies responsible for water management;

j). promote education and public awareness on issues of water resources;

k). help members disseminate the results of their work along the lines of the objectives of the Partnership;

l). organize and facilitate discussion forums with a scientific, technical, educational, legal, economic, social, political, international, national, regional or local level;
