The closing workshop of phase 2 of the TonFuturTonClimat project in Benin was held on 28 March 2023 in Tanguiéta.
The country project "Mobilisation of youth associations for a better management of water resources in the Tchoutchoubou micro-basin in the Pendjari basin" aimed at improving the sustainable management of natural and related resources in the Tchoutchoubou micro-basin in the Pendjari sub-basin through a strong involvement of youth.
The implementation of the TonFuturTonClimat funded by the Quebec Government, GWP, the Swiss cooperation and Agence de l’Eau Artois Picardie is impacting the social organization of youth in the municipality of Tanguieta, Northern Benin.
As part of the implementation of the pilot initiatives of the Water Development and Management Plan (SAGE) of the Niger portion of Mékrou, the Mekrou phase 2 Niger project financed by the European Union has rehabilitated the Belandè multi-village mini drinking water supply system with an extension of the standpipes.
To ensure ownership of the results of the implementation of the initiative "Support to the empowerment of women farmers for the reinforcement of the climatic resilience of local communities in the Tchoutchoubou micro-basin in North Benin", the Water, Climate, Development and Gender Equality Programme (WACDEP G) implemented by the Benin Country Water Partnership (CWP Benin) in collaboration with the main implementing stakeholders, held a workshop on 21-23 December 2022 to capitalise on the said initiative at the Tanguiéta town hall.
The Chamber of Agriculture (RECA) in Niamey, Niger hosted from 26 to 28 December 2022 a training workshop for stakeholders on ecosystem management for climate change adaptation in the Mekrou sub-basin in Niger. This training session aims to strengthen the capacities of participants on the management of ecosystems in the Mekrou sub-basin in Niger.
The implementation of the project "Water for Growth and Poverty Reduction in the Mekrou sub-basin of Niger" (Mekrou Phase 2-Niger Project), financed by the European Union, has made significant progress in the area covered by the project, namely the communes of Tamou and Kirtachi in the Tillabery region and Falmey in the Dosso region.
GWP-WA’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Armand Houanye attended the Kick-off Meeting of the ‘’EPIC Africa Project - Energy Planning and Modelling through Integrated Assessment of Climate-Land-Energy-Water Nexus in Sub-Saharan Africa: The Cases of the Volta and Tana River Basins’’ on 22nd and 23rd November 2022. The Kick-off meeting was held in Accra, Ghana from 21 to 25 November 2022.
GWP-WA Executive Secretary, Mr. Armand HOUANYE and the UNEP Director, Susan C. Gardner, signed on October 17, 2022 a Project Cooperation Agreement (PCA).
A regional training workshop on "Production, marketing and use of organic fertilizers for climate change adaptation and youth employability: opportunities, methods and tools" was held in Natitingou on 15 and 16 September 2022.
