WAEMU validates study on the status of IWRM implementation in member states

The West African Economic Monetary Union (WAEMU) held on 17 to 19 December 2018 a workshop in Ouagadougou to validate a study on the status of IWRM implementation in its eight (8) member states.

The representatives of the Ministries in charge of Water, Environment and IWRM Units of the WAEMU Member States; Regional organizations and non-governmental organizations, AfDB (African Water Facility), IUCN, CILSS, GWP/WA, Country Water Partnerships (CWPs) of Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, Togo, Mali, Senegal, PRESA, VBA, NBA; Donors and Experts from the relevant departments of the WAEMU Commission took part in the workshop.

Participants examined and gathered the opinions on the conclusions and recommendations of the study report and validated the IWRM Action Plan that should constitute the working basis for the development of the IWRM process in the WAEMU region. GWP/WA represented by the regional coordinator, M. Armand HOUNAYE made significant contribution to improve the content of the document. In addition to validating the document and proposing a common IWRM action plan for the Community members, participants defined the basis for collaboration to mobilize funding to implement the agreed actions.
