A new chair for CWP Mali

The Country Water Partnership of Mali (CWP-Mali) held its 7th Ordinary General Assembly on Thursday, September 13, 2018 in Bamako. The discussions focused on the difficulties in mobilizing funds to finance activities, organizational problems, etc.

The General Assembly is a key event in the life of the Country Water Partnership. It provides an opportunity for partners in general, and in particular those who do not sit the organs, to be informed about the conduct of the activities of the CWP, to exchange views on major water issues, and to seek the partners' opinions on the new orientations and approaches of the CWP.

This assembly of partners follows the extraordinary meeting of last January and was marked statutory discussions on various reports and mainly the renewal of bodies. Mr. Navon CISSE, technical advisor at the Ministry of Energy and Water was designated new chair. He is taking over Mr. Mamadou SYLLA who has served his two terms. A steering committee meeting was held on September 12 prior to the partners’ meeting to pave the way.

CWP-Mali has made achievements that include the completion of a diagnostic study of the Country Water Partnership in Mali, the development of a strategy plan for the period 2016-2020 and the establishment of an executive secretariat. Despite these achievements, it is now facing difficulties in mobilizing funds to finance its activities, some organizational and availability problems are affecting the partnership's governing structures, and there is a need to give a more practical and operational content to the concept of integrated water resources management.

The event was attended by Professor Amadou Hama Maïga, chair of the GWP WA and Mr. Armand HOUANYE, Executive Secretary.  Mr. Daouda Traoré, represented the National Director of Hydraulics.
