ECOWAS validates Indicators for the monitoring and evaluation of IWRM in West Africa

ECOWAS Water Resources Coordination Center organized a meeting in Lomé, Togo from 25-27 October 2017 to present, discuss and validate the 63 IWRM indicators of ECOWAS and the 40 indicators of AMCOW.

Taking part in this meeting, the outgoing Executive Secretary of GWP West Africa, Mr. Dam MOGBANTE indicated that it is important to ensure that the selected indicators will be able to adequately inform the monitoring process of the implementation of the SDGs from regional transboundary and national levels in West Africa.

Country representatives also presented the status of National Water Information Systems, and VBA made a presentation on its Observatory to share information and experience.

Participants pointed out the challenges related to the financing and the necessary support from ECOWAS to make these important knowledge tools work.

This activity is also part of the implementation of the IWRM project in West Africa, financed by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) that received the technical support from GWP-WA for its development.
