Faced with the multiple challenges of water resource management with climate uncertainties in Sahelian countries such as Mali, hydro-agricultural and energy developments have been identified as an option for water management to ensure economic growth and consequently reduce the poverty index and a perspective of benefit sharing for all stakeholders.
The main objective of this workshop was to launch the Nexus Water-Energy and Food Security concept in Mali and to sensitize national actors for its application in the planning of future projects related to water resources.
Specifically, the workshop is expected to contribute to improving the knowledge of stakeholders involved in water resources management on the concept of Nexus Water-Energy and Food Security for Mali; initiate stakeholders in the process of defining the challenges and thematic priorities of the Nexus Water-Energy and Food Security sectors for Mali; have a network of Nexus Water-Energy and Food Security focal points at the level of sectoral departments and services concerned with sustainable water resources management, and identify pilot projects that could benefit from a more effective NEXUS approach.
The workshop is financially supported by the GIZ project in support of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA).
