In Benin, on April 3, 2018, the Chair of the Country Water Partnership (CWP) handed over to the Director of INE the equipment intended for the country's scientific institutions.
In Burkina Faso, the CWP-BF chair handed over the equipment for scientific institutions to INERA's Deputy Director on 6 April 2018.
Taking advantage of his visit in Niamey, the chair of GWP-WA officially handed over the equipment to UAM and AGRHYMET on 12 April and NBA on 13 April 2018.
The ceremony with the NBA was also the occasion to officially hand over the various products resulting from the implementation of the project during the 2014-2017 period. Important results achieved by the Mekrou project were welcome by the NBA Executive Secretary including:
- the elaboration of guidance and planning documents for the sustainable management and development of the Mekrou basin, including the Strategic Framework for Water Security (CaSSE) for the basin and the Master Plan for Water Development and Management (SDAGE) and the Programme of Measures and Investment Plan (PMPI), which are awaiting adoption by the NBA Council of Ministers, to pave the way for their implementation;
- the elaboration of a Framework Agreement for the promotion of political dialogue in the Mekrou Basin, which was signed on 21 December 2015 by the Ministers in charge of Water of Benin, Burkina and Niger in the presence of their NBA peers at the 34th Ordinary Session of the NBA Council of Ministers held in Cotonou;
- the development of a module " Water variability Assessment " at transboundary level supported by a user manual, allowing disaster risk reduction in case of droughts or floods with the involvement of all countries, which provides a relevant contribution to existing early warning systems in the area. It is an integrated and rational management tool (e-WATER) presenting different functionalities related to hydrology, agriculture, climate, optimization and water balance, etc.
The Executive Secretary reiterated his unfailing support for the accompaniment of a second phase of the Mekrou project.
