Twenty-three (23) delegates out of the 33 planned who answered the questionnaire took part in the General Assembly. The outgoing president returned to the objectives and challenges of the activities and made a small point on the achievements made by the previous teams.
These include the implementation of the DISS'EAU project financed by the French Development Agency (AFD) and whose main partner is GRET for a period of 4 years, 2 years of which have already begun. To date, 63% of the budget has been consumed and the project is ongoing.
In a consensual climate, the participants set up a new office with Mr. Aziz Faye (The Partnership) as Coordinator, Mrs. Mame Tacko Diallo (EAU VIVE SENEGAL) as vice coordinator, Mr. Daouda Sanon (FONDATION ACRA) in charge of finances, Mr. Babacar Gueye Communication Assistant, Ms. Sophie Diop (FONDATION221) in charge of communication, Mr. Basile Diouf (PNES) President of the coordination of the thematic groups, Mr. Seydou Ndiaye (PAEDD) assistant coordination of the thematic groups and Ms. Banda Dieye (FSAPH) assistant in charge of finances.
In view of their proximity to the populations, CSOs have an important role to play in the implementation and monitoring-evaluation process of MDG 6. They played an essential role in the preparation of the World Water Forum in Dakar through information, social mobilization, dialogue and citizen control actions. Also, the establishment of the Platform is part of a strategic approach to dialogue with public authorities.
POSCEAS is a space for consultation, mobilization, anticipation, proposal, advocacy and coherence of the actions of CSO members for an efficient contribution to the governance of the water and sanitation sector in Senegal.
The Platform aims to:
- federate the initiatives of the different actors of the civil society, to better impact the performance of the water and sanitation sector;
- Strengthen the capacities of members and actors so that they can better contribute to and influence the political dialogue for the effectiveness of the right to drinking water and sanitation;
- Facilitate the pooling of resources and the sharing of information and experiences among CSOs for a quality contribution to the governance of the water and sanitation sector; and
- harmonize views and make joint proposals on strategic issues concerning the water and sanitation sector.
Its intervention is based on capacity building, policy dialogue, social mobilization and advocacy, capitalization and dissemination of CSO experiences, review of water and sanitation public policies, alliance building at the international level and communication, research and knowledge management, position taking, monitoring and early warning.
