This database will generate climate information that will feed in regular newsletters, published and distributed in French but also as press releases in local languages.
Thus, to compensate for the absence of a reliable and complex-specific institutional framework for generating climate information, a platform bringing together the main actors capable of providing climate data was set up on 20 December 2018 and should contribute to this database.
This platform held its fifth session on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Sèmè-Kpodji City Hall to take stock of the measures taken or to be taken by the municipalities of the complex in relation to the warning given on the rise of the waters of the Ouémé River, in the context of natural disaster risk management in the Lac Nokoué-Lagune complex in Porto Novo. The meeting discussed how to strengthen the skills of the platform members through the presentation of the activities of the Institute of Fisheries and Oceanological Research of Benin (IRHOB), its contribution to the Early Warning System (EWS) and the generation of climate information specific to the complex.
Two recommendations emerged from this session on the strengthening or setting up of budget lines dedicated to the management of natural disaster risks in the communes in collaboration with the respective prefectures; developing alternative housing sites other than schools in each commune of the Lac-Nokoué Complex.
