Regional workshops to share the consolidated version of Togo's framework environment law being updated: Kara stage

Work on revising Law No. 2008-005 of 30 May 2008, the framework law on the environment in Togo, is continuing with the organisation of two regional workshops in Kara and Atakpamé to share the current provisional version of the framework law on the environment and have it amended by local stakeholders.

The two workshops are being organised by Togo's Ministry of the Environment and Forest Resources (MERF), in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Global Water Partnership in West Africa ( GWP-WA) as part of the implementation of the PREE project. They aim to: (i) present the current provisional version of the framework law on the environment to local stakeholders and encourage them to take ownership of it; (ii) encourage local stakeholders to make observations, comments and recommendations to improve the quality of the framework law on the environment.

The first regional workshop was opened on 5 September 2022 at the Hôtel Etoile de la Kozah in Kara, Togo, by Lieutenant-Colonel Komla DETSE, Regional Director for the Environment and Forest Resources in Kara.

A total of 38 participants are taking part in the Kara workshop.
