SDG- SP progress in Mali and Ghana

The Water Resources Commission (WRC), in collaboration with Ghana Country Water Partnership, is undertaking a review of the IWRM Plans for the Tano and Pra Basins.

The IWRM Plans, when revised, will contribute to stage 2 of the Action 1.2 of the IWRM Plan 2020-2022 prepared with the support of GWP and partners under the SDG-SP.

Since November 2020, some steps have been taken towards the realization of the revised IWRM Plans for the Pra and Tano Basins.

The Officers in charge of the Pra and Tano Basins and their respective teams have provided preliminary inputs to the IWRM Plans as at January 2021. The 4-member team has vetted the inputs made, while employing virtual means for feedbacks.

Presidential elections in the country on December 20, 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic have impacted the progress made on the implementation of the project.

In Mali, the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water through the National Directorate of Hydraulics in collaboration with the Country Water Partnership have started implementing actions part of the National Program for IWRM in order to accelerate the pace of implementation of the approach for the effective achievement of SDG 6 and all water related SDGs by 2030 in the country.

The technical group that has been established is working to implement activities and bringing on board the needed expertise. A consultant has been recruited to carry out a diagnostic study on the functioning of and develop a capacity building plan for the National water council.
