Strategic collaboration with key regional stakeholders

GWP-WA is developing fruitful collaboration ties with strategic partners in the region including with UEMOA in helping this regional economic community to implement part of its work plan focusing on IWRM and water related SDGs activities.

The Department of Agriculture, Water Resources and Environment (DAREN) has contacted GWP-WA’s Executive Secretariat to help in the organization of regional stakeholders consultations and training workshops. These include one workshop to prepare UEMOA IWRM Experts for the 2021 World Water Forum in Dakar, a workshop to review and capitalize on approaches to operationalize IWRM at the scale of river basins in the WAEMU region: challenges and opportunities and a regional workshop on how water governance can be considered at the level of the municipalities. Discussions are ongoing to organize all three workshops by July 2021 the latest, a first one being planned for the end of March 2021.

GWP-WA is liaising and collaborating with the Mono Basin Authority (MBA), the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) and partners on the development of a GEF project focusing on Mono basin priorities. Many virtual meetings have been held facilitated by GWP-WA since the second semester of 2020.
