The AIP will strengthen the business case for water security investments and support the preparation of bankable projects as instruments to stimulate transformative economic growth and address the root causes of migration and youth unemployment. The programme intends to support Africa's efforts in the context of the 2030 Agenda of the SDGs and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
For monitoring water investments in Africa, an investment dashboard is being developed to track progress in resource mobilization, identify bottlenecks, strengthen mutual accountability and take action to address the investment needs for achieving SDG 6. The dashboard will support the work of the International High-Level Panel on Water for Africa.
Thus, as part of the process of updating the AIP indicators for the year 2022, data has been collected through official documents published by countries to inform these indicators.
To share the data collected in the water and environment sectors with key stakeholders in Benin, two technical workshops were organized on Friday 22 April and Monday 30 May 2022 at the Benin Country Water Partnership (CWP) conference room in Cotonou.
The main objective of the workshop is to facilitate the appropriation of the AIP water sector investment indicators by key stakeholders in Benin.
The said workshops were attended by 12 participants including 4 women and 8 men who were representatives of the General Directorate of Water, the Directorate General of Environment and Climate, the Directorate General of the Environment and Climate Fund, the Ministry of Development and Coordination of Government Action, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the National Water Company of Benin (SONEB), the National Agency for Drinking Water Supply in Rural Areas (ANAEP MR), the Beninese Agency for the Environment (ABE) and CWP-Benin.
