Three pilot projects were implemented in rural and peri-urban areas in Benin, Burkina Faso and Togo by youth and/or women's associations to increase the resilience of rural youth to climate change.
TFTC achieved all its objectives and raised enormous expectations in the communities surrounding the implementation sites. The project implementation was coordinated by GWP-WA, ISW, CWPs of Benin and Burkina Faso and the NGO Eau Vive Internationale Togo.
The lessons learned from the implementation of this first phase include:
- The information meetings at the beginning for the involvement of local authorities in the different phases of implementation is key to the success and appropriation of the project.
- The knowledge of the realities of the locality by the implementing partners in the field has demonstrated the relevance of collaboration with local associations.
- Transparency in all phases of project implementation is a factor of success, trust between partners, actors, etc.
- Helping communities, women and youth groups to better organize themselves with management capacities is an important factor of ownership and sustainability.
- Job creation for the youth by allowing the population to produce helps to stabilize young men who have a good occupation and will contribute to improve the livelihood of the entire community.
A second phase of the project TFTC has been accepted for funding by the Quebec government and expected to start early in 2021.
