The experts deliberated on the progress reports made by VBA over the past three years as well as financial audit reports. At the end of deliberations, the experts produced a communique on the way forward for the Authority.
At this meeting, the Executive Secretary of CWP-Ghana was the master of ceremony (MC) for the opening ceremony.
The Experts’ meeting was followed on 10th May 2019 by the VBA Council of Ministers attended by the Executive Secretary of GWP Ghana. About fifty (50) participants were present, representing the six (6) riparian States of the basin, including the VBA line ministers or their representatives, focal points and technical and financial partners such as the IUCN, GWP-WA and UEMOA. Also, some technical structures in Ghana such as Volta River Authority (VRA), Bui Power Authority, Environmental Protection Agency and Ghana Irrigation Development Authority were present at the meetings. Some Members of Parliament and Ministers in Ghana were present at the official opening ceremony to lend their support and solidarity to the work of the VBA and by extension, governments of the six (6) riparian countries.
At this meeting, the Ministers approved the Communique produced by the VBA Committee of experts, prior to which the technical experts gave their opinions on the Water Charter, in particular.
