A national consultant and investigators conducted the “mission to strengthen the political, institutional and organizational capacities for integrated management of floods and drought risks in the Volta basin in Ghana”. They carried out a literature review, field visits and interviews with stakeholders.
The national workshop is meant to enhance the integration of DRR and CCA policies, plans, and guidelines at local, national, and transboundary levels VB to strengthen resilience to CC in the VB.
Participants have reviewed DRR and CCA policies, plans and guidelines, and proposed improvements to strengthen their integration and implementation on the basis of an appropriate institutional coordination and collaboration mechanism at local, national and transboundary levels in the VB.
Participants include the water resources Commission, Ghana Meteorological Services, NADMO, Local Authority in the basin, Ghana Country Water Partnership, National Directorate in charge of the environment, National Environment Agency, Ministry in charge of planning, Ministry in charge of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, University (National Water Institute, WASCAL), NGOs.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on behalf of the VFDM consortium, Mr. Sidi COULIBALY of GWP-WA, thanked all Ghana stakeholders taking part in project activities at local, national and regional levels. He said that these activities are included in the VFDM project work plan and are taking place in all six VBA countries with consultants work that led to local and national workshops in each of the Volta basin countries. The results of the workshops will be assessed and will contribute to the regional workshop to be held on June 13 and 14 in the Togolese capital city Lomé, in the first half of June 2024.
VFDM is funded by the Adaptation Fund and implemented by WMO, VBA and GWP-WA.
