In attendance were the Executive Director of VBA and his Deputy, the Executive Secretary of GWP-WA, the WMO representative, representatives of the VBA national focal structures (NFS), VBA country technicians, the CIMA Foundation, the VFDM project implementing partners and the Technical Support Partners.
Various components of the system was presented to participants with explanations on how to better use it to share or exploit the data that can be used to visualize various climatic scenarios in selected or entire Volta region.
In the exchanges, the issue of data sharing was raised, when the project allows for capacity building, densification of the observation and monitoring network, the data will be shared, but in the case when a project is not contributing as expected, institutions are reluctant to participate in the data exchange said one participant.
Participants recommended that data storage and exploitation from a server or cloud should be considered for effective sustainability; in situ meteorological and hydrological data at country level should be integrated for better data reliability. The workshop participants invited the Directors of the National Meteorological and Hydrological Agencies to facilitate the task of the designated focal points in maintaining and running the myDEWETRA platform. VBA is invited to ensure the sustainability of the platform through the strong involvement of the States.
