The meeting allowed to take stock of the climate change issue in the areas related to water resources and related gender inequalities with the main challenges to be taken up; to present the results of the study on the evaluation of the consideration of the gender transformative approach in the formulation and implementation of laws, policies, plans, strategies, programs and projects related to water, climate and development in Benin. Ongoing and planned water, climate and development initiatives with regard to the legal framework, strategic policies, projects and programs were taken into account while highlighting the related entry points for the development and implementation of the Program in Benin. The draft theory of change of the Program in Benin was also discussed together with the institutional arrangement with related organizational modalities for the implementation of the Program in Benin. The logical framework of the country Program was also developed.
The goal of the Africa Water Investment Programme is to transform and improve the investment outlook for water security and sustainable sanitation for a prosperous, peaceful and equitable society. AIP aims to leverage $30 Billion in investments, by 2030, towards SDG 6 implementation. The overall objective is to enhance job creation through gender sensitive investments in water security, industrialization and climate resilient development.
AIP will promote job creation through gender sensitive investments in water security, industrialization and climate resilient development and support continental efforts towards universal access to safe water and safely managed sanitation.
The first phase of the AIP WACDEP-G, 2020-2022 is being implemented in five (5) countries (Benin, Cameroon, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia) and five (5) transboundary basins. For the West African region, the program is being implemented in Benin and the Volta Basin, as well as at the regional level.
