The programme focuses on the capacity building of national and regional transboundary institutions to integrate water security and climate resilience into the development planning and decision - making processes; helping countries adapt to a new climate regime through increased investments in water security. It will also contribute to advancing efforts to implement the international commitments of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) over the period 2016 to 2019.
Water and environment stakeholders validated on Friday, 10 March 2017, the Country project document for Benin as well as the report on the in-depth assessment of the needs of the actors In terms of capacity building for water security and climate resilience.
The process is facilitated by the CWP-Benin which helped in the setting up of a follow-up committee including ANPC, Benin Meteorology, Water Directorate; Energy Directorate and many others to accompany a GWP / WA Expert in preparing the document.
Thirty participants representing public institutions, municipalities, NGOs working in the environmental and water sectors, academics and donors attended the validation meeting.
Several recommendations were made to improve the quality of the document and participants strongly urged that financial resources are mobilized to implement the project.
