Benin: training of the members of the National Youth Parliament for Water and Sanitation o the protection of the Oueme water ressources

The regional Youth Parliament for Water and Sanitation of the Ouémé/ Pateau Central held a training workshop from 14 to 16 April 2016 on the topic « Youth of Oueme, protect your resource ». About fifty young people took part in the training including students, young water professionals, teachers, environment manager, economists, youth in the health and paramedical sector, socilogists, etc.

 

Among issues in discussion there were impacts of climate change on water resources, wetlands, sustainable development, the actions of youth on local stakes around water and sanitation, the role of youth in IWRM in Benin, the right to water and sanitation, water diseases, water and green economy for a sustainable city, etc.

The participants showed a lot of interest through their active participation. A cleaning of the city was done with the support of Porto Novo municipality technical services. This regional branch of the PNJEA is very active and is supported by many partners including the media.

A network of youth volonteers for water and sanitation in Porto Novo was established with the aim of bringing support to the municipality of Porto Novo in their actions towards te community including cleaning, tree planting, sensitization and education of the population.
