During his mission, the Mekrou Project Officer accompanied by the Chair and the Permanent Secretary of the CWP Niger met officials of AGHRYMET, which is responsible for coordinating the implementation of scientific activities on the ground for the Mekrou Project. This meeting allowed not only to take stock of cooperation between JRC and this institution, but also to identify ways and means to implement the practical arrangements for the effective start of work. It was decided the organization of a 2-day workshop in Niamey coordinated by AGRHYMET to gather all regional scientific structures namely ACMAD, NBA and WASCAL, the focal points of scientific national structures namely INERA in Burkina Faso, the Laboratory of Hydrogeology of the Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey and the National Institute of Water in Benin, CWP Benin, CWP Burkina Faso and CWP Niger in order to establish a platform of cooperation in the conduct of activities.
On 4 August 2015, the Project Officer accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Niger CWP paid a courtesy visit to the accountant of the NGO Eau Vive which is the host institution of the CWP. They had exchanges on issues of financial management of the Mekrou project.
Mekrou project: the cooperation framework agreement document handed to NBA Executive Secretary
The Mekrou Project Officer handed over to NBA Executive Secretary 4 original copies and the electronic version of the draft Cooperation Framework Agreement for the promotion of political dialogue in the Mekrou basin. The event took place in Niamey, Niger on August 4, in the premises of the NBA Secretariat with the Executive Secretary, surrounded by his closest collaborators. The Executive Secretary promised to get the NBA Legal advisor examined the document and to initiate its enrolling in the agenda of the next Council of Ministers.
