The African Network of Basin Organizations (ANBO) and Global Water Partnership (GWP) officially launched the joint project called “Strengthening the institutions for transboundary water resources management in Africa” (SITWA) in Dakar, Senegal during a workshop held on 13 and 14 December, 2012.
The objective of the project is to strengthen regional cooperation at the political, economic and stakeholder level for the sustainable management of transboundary water resources in Africa contributing to peace and security, stability and poverty alleviation, relying on African knowledge.
SITWA is a project funded by the European Commission for 3 million Euros and will be implemented by the ANBO in partnership with GWP. The workshop was funded by GWPO, OMVS and some basin organizations. GWP / WA and the Niger Basin Authority (NBA) will take the lead for the West African component. The project is designed for a period of three years starting in 2012.
