 The Secretariat planning for the year

How can GWP-WA bring its contribution to better shape the projects and ongoing or future programs? This was the overall objective of the secretariat staff retreat on 2, 3 and 4 April 2013 in Kombissiri, a town about forty kilometers from Ouagadougou, the headquarters of Global  Partnership Water West Africa. The Executive, Mr Dam welcomed the organization of this session as it is timelyAmong the main topics discussed were the Strategic Planning (2014-2019) and the ways and means  to use for the development of new projects. Regarding the project of the Great Rivers Partnership in the Niger basin, an initiative of the International Union of Nature (IUCN), the document was welcome after exchanges.
A presentation on the project "Water for growth and poverty reduction in the Mekrou River basin " was made by the Executive Secretary. In the opinion of staff, the satisfaction lies in the fact that the project will be managed in accordance with GWPO procedures.
Another project on the table was the project "Improving drought management in Africa." This is a still valid project on which discussions are ongoing at GWPO Secretariat. Discussions were done also on how to collect the region’s contribution for the development of  both the GWP Strategy 2014-2019 and the regional three-year plan to implement the strategy for the period 2014-2016. The workshop also focused on the review of manual administrative, financial and accounting procedures.
During the retreat, members of the Secretariat received the courtesy visit of Professor Albert Goula Bi Tié, regional TEC member and Prof. Abel Afouda, Chair of Benin CWP. The two personalities attended the Communication on 2014-2019 Strategy and contributed with ideas on the process of collecting contributions. Prof. Goula is centralizing the regional contributions.
