CWP-Benin since 2010 began the implementation of IWRM principles through for the valorization of economic and local governance of water around the multiple uses of water resources. On 7 and 8 February 2013, CWP-Benin in partnership with Soroptimist Club Cotonou Dean and the Municipality of Lalo (Department Couffo) finalized the implementation of the initiative, which began in 2011 on the artesian drilling of Tchi Ahomadégbé in the commune of Lalo. This initiative aims to improve the lives of women, their families and their communities through economic development and local governance of water from artesian drilling of Tchi Ahomadégbé in the context of decentralization.
The implementation of this initiative has allowed people to become aware of practices that are detrimental to the quality and sustainability of the resource and adopt good hygiene and sanitation practices at all stages of household drinking water supply. Similarly, the construction of standpipes, rehabilitation of water storage tower, the artesian drilling now facilitate the supply of drinking water to household and the irrigation of market garden fields, rice and fish ponds. So 153 farmers including 87 women i.e. 57% have been trained and have a good level of mastery of cooperative principles and techniques of agricultural production routes. Beneficiary women have more than 2 ha developed for vegetable production (large nightshade, fiddle, pepper, tomato, okra, etc.). From the implementation of this initiative, although complex bringing down the IWRM principles is a way to raise awareness among local communities in some risky practices related to water and harmful to their health.
