The Expert Committe of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA) were meeting in Abidjan from 25 - 29 November 2012 to prepare the 31st Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of the Authority. This session was expected to review and adopt the annual reports of the Executive Secretary and the Financial Controller, the adoption of the Strategic Plan for 2022, the review of the Action Plan for the Sustainable Development and the Investment Program, the adoption of the draft annual work Plan and the budget for 2013.
Discussions during the meeting were also focused on problems and diffulties facing the sub-regional organization. In this way, the SITWA project appears as a great opportunity for the NBA to strengthen its governance bodies as explained by Sidi Coulibaly, the communications officer of GWP / WA participating to the meeting. GWP welcomes NBA’s project on groundwater management (AGES) as part of the regional initiative of dialogue on groundwater in West Africa. Moreover, the Niger Basin Authority is one of the initiators of the IWRM and Environment project which they need to support like other partners.
