Nigeria held a Presidential Summit on Water for February 18 to 19, 2013 in Abuja the capital city of the country. The Summit was hosted by the President, His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, on the theme "Innovative Funding of the Water Sector in Nigeria".
The Summit was attended by high profile guests including Former Presidents of Nigeria, Vice President, Senate President, Chair of the African Ministerial Council on Water (AMCOW), senior members of the Government, House of Representatives and Senate, Head of International Organizations, private sector and key water practitioners.
GWP was represented at this important event by the Chair of GWP West Africa, Honorable Hama Arba Diallo who facilitated the sub-theme 3 on the financing requirements of the water sector in the context of climate change.
The Summit, highly informative and interactive has addressed mainly the issues surrounding sustainable water services in Nigeria in both national and international channels to alternative financing for development, the operation and maintenance of water infrastructure, the strengthening of financial cooperation between the federal, regional and local levels, and how to mobilize more support from development partners, resources from international financial institutions, donors, NGOs and bilateral partners.
