Contribution to the Eritrean IWRM planning process

The Eritrean Country Water Partnership has played an important role in the planning process of the Eritrean IWRM plan, which started at the end of 2005.

Using the Partnership as a major platform for consensus building and dialogues, the IWRM process continued through meetings, briefings and workshops. This secured political will and consolidated stakeholder involvement for the IWRM plan.

At the end of 2009 an IWRM Action Plan for Eritrea was completed. It clearly documented 95 actions or projects that address the gaps in the enabling environment, institutional framework and management instruments. Although the IWRM planning was initiated and funded by external actors, the Eritrean Country Water Partnership succeeded to create national ownership.
