The training is aimed at strengthening the capacity of institutions in water resources and disaster risk management to reduce the impact of drought disasters through enhancing of IWRM knowledge and skills necessary for promoting and adoption of disaster reduction practices as an integral part of water resources management. The target group includes participants willing to share and disseminate water resources and disaster risk management case studies from their work in the Eastern/Horn of Africa region (Burundi, Congo DR, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda) and self-sponsored participants including outside of Eastern/Horn of Africa. The Training is planned for 30 participants, of which 20 places are reserved by GWP Eastern Africa through its IDMP-HOA program and by Nile IWRM-Net/Cap-Net. Another 10 spaces are open for self-sponsored participants. Self-sponsored participants are expected to cover their accommodation and travel costs, and pay USD 500 to cover for course materials, field visits, lunch, refreshment and other related expenses by the Course organizers. In both cases, participants will be expected to have good experiences in managing water resources and drought disaster risk. The training is supported with training material on Drought Risk Management developed by Cap-Net, practical exercises and case studies. It will be more interactive and participatory process that will facilitate learning from experiences of the participants themselves. The application deadline is 25th May 2015.
