The Regional Consulting Partners meeting convenes bi-annually and if necessary, holds extraordinary meetings. Following up on the previous CP meeting that took place in Entebbe Uganda (hybrid format) in 2020, the upcoming CP Meeting will be held in Kigali, Rwanda on June 2022
Main Objectives of the CP meeting
The overarching objective of the Consulting Partners meeting is to get strategic direction for the GWP Eastern Africa regional and country governance processes. The main objectives include to:
(a) Chart a clear direction for GWPEA hosting arrangements;
(b) Discuss CWP strengthening and financing;
(c) To review and endorse the proposed amendments to the GWPEA Constitution;
The CP meeting will also be an opportunity for the transition of the RSC Chair from Kenya to Rwanda. Alongside the CP meeting, the Regional Steering Committee Members who will be attending the CP meeting will convene for an extra-ordinary RSC meeting which will focus on:
(a) Review the progress in implementing the 2022 workplan;
(b) Discuss on strategic regional pipeline project proposals and/or concept notes;
(c) Discuss on key organizational matters.
Participants
The meeting will bring together Consulting Partners and RSC members from the 9 countries in the GWPEA Region namely Burundi, Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda. Djibouti will also be invited to join the meeting as an observer. Each Country Water Partnership (CWP) will be represented by 5 participants, two of them being members of the Regional Steering Committee
Dates
The CP meeting will take place on the 17th June 2022 while the extra-ordinary RSC meeting will take place on the 18th June 2022.
Expected Outcomes from the CP meeting
The expected outcomes from the CP meeting include:
▪ A summary of key recommendations for hosting the GWPEA Secretariat in the near future;
▪ Way forward on CWP strengthening and resource mobilization;
▪ Endorsement of the amendments to the GWPEA constitution;
Expected Outcomes from the extra-ordinary RSC meeting
The key expected outcomes from the extra-ordinary RSC meeting include:
• Recommendations on how to fast track the implementation of the GWPEA 2022 workplan in line with the GWP 3 year Work Plan 2023-2025;
• Prioritization of strategic regional projects to be promoted;
• Recommendations on key organizational matters.
The meeting will also explore opportunities for the GWPEA participation to some of the side events of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022 (CHOGM) especially the Commonwealth Business Forum which will take place from the 21st to 23rd June 2022, in Kigali, Rwanda. The Business Forum has various topics relevant for GWP’s areas of operation such as financing blue-green growth, innovative financing, accelerating transition to sustainable energy, sustainable urbanization, just to mention few. GWPEA will be seeking to find inroads in the water and climate areas of the work programme.
