Conakry: A consultation on the priority issues of the water and sanitation sector

A consultation on priority issues in the water and sanitation sector was held on Friday 19 November in Conakry. Organized by the OECD Water-Sanitation Taskforce and the Arab Coordination Group (ACG), in partnership with the Ministry of Energy, Hydraulics and Hydrocarbons of Guinea, this meeting is a framework for stakeholders in the water and sanitation sector to express their views on the real issues and on the setting of several priorities in these areas.

Speaking at the official ceremony, the Head of Cabinet of the Ministry of Energy, Hydraulics and Hydrocarbons, Mrs Mariame CAMARA, on behalf of her minister, stated that Guinea is committed to implementing projects to guarantee access to drinking water. The meeting is to validate the preliminary draft of the action document on the priority issues of the water and sanitation sector to help Guinea achieve Sustainable Development Goal No. 6. The CWP Guinea Executive Secretary, Hafiziou Barry, contributed in the elaboration of the document that was validated.

According to the OECD representative, Mr. Juan Casado, the idea is to help the country move forward on SDG 6 on water and sanitation in a coordinated way, with a new approach where donors agree on a series of projects, then share them among themselves to have more impact. This was supported by Director General of the Guinea Water Company (SEG), who states that the framework of exchange allows all the actors to give their opinion on the real issues and on the setting of a number of priorities in a participative way.
