CWP Benin contributes to relaunch the work of the national water council

A workshop on "The status of water resources management: legal and institutional aspects” was organized to strengthen the technical capacity of women sitting as non-state members (NSA) of the national water council in order fort hem tob e active in the debates oft he NWC.

The opening ceremony was led by the Chair of the CWP-Benin and the Representative of the General Directorate of Water (DGEau), the Departmental Director of Water and Mines (DDEM) of Zou et des Collines.
The workshop was attended by about thirty participants representing in particular the 19 NSA delegates who are sitting in the 2nd mandate of the NWC. They are: the Local Water Partnerships (PLE) operating in the Ouémé basin, namely those of the Ouémé-Plateau, Atacora-Donga; Couffo and Zou-Collines; DGEau; CWP-Benin and the Decentralized State Structures (SDE) in charge of the environment and water. The workshop made it possible, among other things, to inform the NSA members of the second mandate of the NWC on the legal and institutional aspects of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). A mechanism for sharing information between NSAs was defined and between NSAs and their constituents was defined. This workshop is part of the 2019 Action Plan of the Governance Component of the Omi Delta NSA Fund Programme. With this the CWP-Benin has accomplished a decisive mission for the relaunch of the sessions of the NWC, whose first term of office has expired since 2016.
