IUCN’s PREE project holds 2nd SC meeting

The members of the Steering Committee of the Regional Partnership Project on Water and Environment in Central and West Africa (PREE), met in Ouagadougou on June 10, 2020, for their 2nd session.

The 31 participants in this session were representatives of national technical ministries in charge of environmental and water resources management; transboundary river basin organizations; sub-regional integration organizations; regional scientific institutions; the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.

The Committee members commended the effort of IUCN and the project team for the current level of implementation about the project considering the status presented at the first session of the SC meeting, even if the implementation rate remains very low.

The Committee is aware of the challenges that await the project in view of the current level of its implementation in relation to the time remaining. For this reason, partners were invited to present the updated situation of activities and resources by the end of June 2021. An extraordinary steering committee meeting is to be organized on 27 and 28 July to have an idea of the overall situation of the project implementation and to take the necessary decisions. The 2020 annual report was approved subject to the committee's comments.
